todayMarch 26, 2026

Background

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and readiness to lead Nigeria, as preparations intensify for the upcoming national convention this weekend.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Planning Sub- committee, emphasized that respect for internal democratic norms remains the foundation of the APC.

The Information Minister, described the party as one poised to engage constructively domestically and internationally stating that the party would continue to grow stronger after the national convention.

Alhaji Idris expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democratic developmental growth and his instrumental role in ensuring democracy thrives in the party and the country at large.

According to him, President Tinubu has played a pivotal role in strengthening the party’s structure, fostering inclusiveness, and providing what he described as “bold democratic and progressive direction” for Nigeria, Africa, and the global Black community.

He further highlighted the President’s efforts in “fortifying the party’s big political tent,” ensuring that members feel a sense of belonging while steering the nation through visionary policies.

The Minister reminded Nigerians that the consensus mode of election which the APC adopted in choosing its officers starting from wards, local governments, states, zonal and finally at the national level has proved that the party is united and peaceful.

Also speaking, the Central Chairman of the Convention Committee and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, assured Nigerians that the party is fully prepared for the exercise noting over 8,453 delegates are expected to participate in electing the national working committee members of the party.

Alhaji Masari disclosed that the APC had adopted a comprehensive planning strategy, including the establishment of 25 sub-committees to oversee critical aspects of the convention.

Masari noted that the party was satisfied with the level of preparation so far and expressed confidence that the convention would set a new benchmark for democratic processes in Nigeria.

“We are leaders, and as leaders, we are going to set the pace for a more durable, reliable, and dependable democratic process in Nigeria,” he said, adding that the outcome of the convention would justify the confidence reposed in the party.

The APC leadership also expressed gratitude to members of the media, acknowledging their role as the fourth estate of the realm and partners in deepening democracy.

They assured Nigerians and the international community that the party is fully prepared to deliver a successful and befitting national convention scheduled to commence tomorrow.

The session concluded with the introduction and recognition of party officials, including members of the Media and Publicity Committee including the Director General Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Dr.Muhammed Bulama.
