Niger Police Arrests 59yr Old Man For Raping 10yr Old Girl

A 59-year-old blind man, Julius Nyikwa, has been arrested by the Niger State Police for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on February 16, 2026, at Keteren-Gwari, Minna.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun who said the suspect has been charged to court, noted that such cases are on the increase in the state.

The Niger State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta who expressed dismay, stressed that the ministry will ensure perpetrators of rape pay for their actions.

The Project Director of Global Promoters for Community Initiative, Mr. Olasukanmi Kalejaiye, who condemned the act, promised to ensure justice is served.

He urged parents to monitor their children and report suspicious cases to relevant authorities.

The suspect, Julius Nyikwa,who is said to be the victim’s uncle, reportedly lured the ten year old girl into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.

According to the report, the grandmother of the girl raised an alarm which led to the suspect’s arrest.
