todayMarch 12, 2026

Background

The Forum of State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal party structures and advancing a policy-driven political platform aimed at national development.

This is contained in a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr. Idris Adamu, In Abuja.

The statement notes that the leadership transition presents an opportunity to deepen institutional reforms, strengthen internal democracy, and reposition the party as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.

It commends members of the National Working Committee for their resilience and dedication to building the party, while emphasizing the need for continued strategic leadership that prioritises policy clarity, grassroots engagement, and organisational stability.

According to the statement, the state chairmen also acknowledges the contributions of key party stakeholders, including the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, whose moral and financial support was described as instrumental in sustaining the party’s activities and growth.

It therefore congratulates the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Sodiq Abubakar Gombe, on his confirmation by the National Executive Council, describing it as a reflection of the confidence and broad support he enjoys within the party.

It congratulates the newly confirmed state chairmen and urge them to focus on strengthening state-level party structures, enhancing political education among members, and promoting policy-based engagement with citizens.

In addition, the statement welcomes the inauguration of the executive members of the SDP Chairmen’s Forum.

It also calls on party members across the country to intensify public sensitisation and mobilisation efforts, stressing that Nigerians are increasingly demanding political platforms that prioritise credible leadership, policy coherence, and sustainable development.
