The member representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Joshua Obika, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Obika cited prolonged leadership crises and internal divisions within the Labour Party, which he said had weakened the party’s ability to function effectively and democratically.
He also referenced the recent area council election in the Federal Capital Territory, where LP candidates were reportedly not uploaded on the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, leading to what he described as the disenfranchisement of party supporters.
The lawmaker pledged loyalty to the APC and expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the move was aimed at ensuring purposeful representation, political stability and sustainable development.
Other lawmakers who also announced their defection include
Inuwa Garba, member representing Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State,
Muhammed Audu, who represents Lau/Lamido/Ardo-Kola Federal Constituency of Taraba State, both of whom left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress.
Adewale Adebayo, who represents Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu Federal Constituency of Osun State, also defected from the PDP to Accord Party.
