The Minister of Defence, Retired General Christopher Musa, has reassured Nigerians of the military’s commitment to safeguarding the country.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja after a meeting with the service chiefs, the defence minister said the meeting was convened to review ongoing military strategies in response to recent attacks in parts of the country.
General Musa noted that troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces are working tirelessly across various theatres of operation to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
According to him, while the military has recorded some casualties in the course of operations, bandits and terrorists are steadily being neutralised as troops intensify their offensive against criminal elements.
He called on media organisations to verify and clarify information with the armed forces before making such reports public, warning that the spread of falsehood, particularly on social media, could mislead the public and undermine ongoing security operations.
The defence minister also appealed to Nigerians not to lose hope but continue to support the armed forces and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
He explained that the military is working closely with other sister agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure swift responses to security threats.

General Musa expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly of Nigeria, and other stakeholders for their continued support toward the nation’s security efforts.
He further urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, assuring that such reports would be acted upon swiftly.
The minister also warned individuals providing information, logistics, or other forms of support to terrorists and bandits to desist immediately, stressing that anyone found aiding criminal groups would be treated as a terrorist under the law.
General Musa concluded by urging the media to exercise responsibility and avoid allowing their platforms to be used to promote or glorify terrorism, reiterating that the armed forces remain fully committed to keeping Nigeria safe.
