The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, DIGs to provide strategic leadership and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony held in Abuja, the police chief described the promotion as a recognition of the officers’ decades of dedicated service, professionalism and commitment to policing in the country.
He noted that the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust within the Nigeria Police Force, adding that it comes with increased responsibility in shaping the direction and operational strategies of the Force.
Disu said the evolving nature of security threats, including organised crime, cyber-related offences and violent criminal networks, requires strong leadership and innovative policing strategies.
He therefore charged the newly decorated officers to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve operational coordination across commands and deepen collaboration with other security agencies.
The IGP stressed that their leadership must also promote discipline, transparency and accountability within the Force while building public trust and confidence in policing.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support towards strengthening the capacity of the police to enhance national security.
Disu also commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
He urged the newly promoted DIGs to view their elevation as a renewed call to national service and to contribute meaningfully to building a more professional, technologically driven and citizen-focused Police Force.
