Dumebi, 4 Others Withdraw Suit Against ADC

todayMarch 7, 2026

Background

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the dismissal of a suit filed by Dumebi Kachikwu and four others challenging the party’s leadership and membership structure.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who held that the matters raised in the suit concern the internal affairs of the party and are therefore non-justiciable.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1331/2025, was filed by Kachikwu and others against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and five other parties.

The court upheld the preliminary objections raised by counsel to the ADC as well as the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, and subsequently declined jurisdiction.

Reacting to the judgment, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the ruling as a victory for the rule of law and the constitutional right of political parties to manage their internal affairs without interference.

He urged Nigerians and political leaders yet to align with any political platform to register with the party through its ongoing online membership drive, stressing that the ADC is committed to building a credible opposition ahead of future elections.

The party also called on the judiciary to remain impartial in order to strengthen democratic governance while reaffirming its resolve to resist attempts to destabilise its internal processes.
