LP Addresses Concerns By INEC On Its State Executives

todayMarch 7, 2026

Background

The Labour Party says it has addressed concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the status of its state executives.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Interim National Chairman of the party, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in Abuja.

The statement explains that INEC had earlier notified it that a letter announcing the planned dissolution of Interim State Working Committees did not meet the statutory notice period required for such a meeting.

It notes that the interim committees were originally appointed in December 2025 following disputes involving parallel state executives allegedly produced by what it described as an illegitimate leadership within the party.

According to the statement, the party leadership has since taken all necessary steps in line with its constitution, the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines to fully address the issues raised by the electoral body.

The statement also dismisses claims circulating in some quarters about the INEC’s notification, describing them as attempts by disgruntled former members to create confusion and mislead the public.

According to the statement the Labour Party therefore urges members and supporters nationwide to continue participating in its ongoing membership revalidation and new registration exercise, while preparing for the forthcoming party congresses and the national convention.

The statement adds that the party leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman remains focused and will not be distracted by what it called the activities of a few discredited individuals.
