ADC Demands Transparency In Legal Proceedings Involving El-Rufai, Malami

todayMarch 4, 2026

Background

The African Democratic Congress has called on the Federal Government to ensure impartiality and transparency in ongoing legal proceedings involving its members, former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja.

The statement expresses concern over the rapid inter-agency transfers and prolonged custodial arrangements of the two leaders, contrasting them with other high-profile cases where accused persons were granted bail and proceedings moved swiftly.

According to the statement, the party emphasizes that Malami and El-Rufai are constitutionally presumed innocent and urged authorities to ensure any prosecution is conducted transparently, based on credible evidence, and without political interference.

It further pledges to stand by its members, safeguarding their legal rights and ensuring they are not intimidated or denied due process.

The statement calls for immediate clarification from relevant agencies on the status of investigations, strict adherence to constitutional safeguards, and the equal application of the law irrespective of political affiliation, stressing that justice must be consistent, impartial, and free from political calculation.
