Reps Convene Emergency Plenary Over 2027 Elections Timetable

The House of Representatives will reconvene Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, for an emergency sitting to consider issues arising from the recent announcement of the 2027 general election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a statement in Abuja by the House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, the emergency session underscores the House’s resolve to respond promptly to matters with far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s democratic process.

According to the statement, deliberations will focus on legislative issues connected to the election timetable announcement, in line with the constitutional responsibilities of the National Assembly.

“All legislative business relating to the matter is expected to be addressed
expeditiously,”

The statement urged lawmakers to prioritize attendance as the House remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions through responsive and responsible lawmaking in the interest of Nigerians.
