LP: Chairman Committee On E- Registration Presents Progress Report

todayFebruary 10, 2026

Background

The Deputy Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the National Steering Committee on Membership Revalidation and E-registration of the Labour Party, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has presented the committee’s progress report to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), highlighting significant gains recorded since the exercise commenced in December.

Speaking at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the Deputy Governor conveyed the goodwill of the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, who he said was unavoidably absent.

Addressing party leaders, stakeholders, and members of the press, he commended members of the steering committee for their dedication, describing the revalidation and registration exercise as central to the party’s institutional strengthening.

He stated that millions of registrations had been recorded nationwide within a short period, adding that the electronic registration process remains ongoing.

According to him, the exercise is aimed at building a credible, transparent, and verifiable membership database to support internal democracy and strategic planning ahead of future elections.

“Our e-registration remains ongoing, and we encourage Nigerians to key into the Labour Party. This process is about rebuilding structures and consolidating our membership base across the country,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor described the exercise as part of broader reforms to enhance governance capacity and policy credibility within the party.

He referenced developments in Abia State, noting that the Labour Party-led administration has demonstrated that campaign promises can translate into measurable governance outcomes.

“Since 1999, Nigerians have often heard promises. What we are demonstrating in Abia is that governance can move beyond rhetoric to practical delivery. Nigeria can work,” he said.

He thanked Nigerians for their support during the party’s recent legal challenges and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusive participation and democratic consolidation.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, he said the party aims to expand its political presence across states, the National Assembly, and state legislatures through structured membership growth and policy-driven engagement.

He called on stakeholders to collaborate in building what he described as “a Labour Party for all Nigerians,” anchored on transparency and accountability.

In her remarks, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nanadi Usman, assured party faithfuls of the leadership’s commitment to strengthening and repositioning the party nationally.

She described the event as historic, noting that it was the first major gathering at the National Secretariat since the Supreme Court judgment of April 4 last year.

Senator Usman acknowledged that the party’s transition process took longer than expected but emphasized that patience and perseverance had prevailed.

She commended the steering committee for its work and expressed appreciation to party supporters across the country for their prayers and encouragement.

The National Chairman also dismissed reports of internal disagreements, recalling that the party and labour leaders recently met at a special event in Umuahia, stressing that the Labour Party remains united in purpose and focused on its reform agenda.
