The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Nyesom Wike, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in road infrastructure provision to Satellite towns , previously neglected.
Wike who stated this during an inspection of projects in Bwari, Karu, Apo and Karshi axis of the FCT, described the ongoing road projects across Abuja’s satellite towns as remarkable.
According to the Minister, the scale and quality of road construction in areas such as Bwari, Karshi, Karu and the Kubwa axis are “unbelievable,” noting that the projects reflect the President’s directive for massive infrastructure development beyond the city centre.
“I am happy that we have the opportunity to support Mr. President to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Wike said.
Wike explained that President Tinubu directed that road networks in satellite towns should receive equal attention, adding that all internal roads in Karu have now been reconstructed.
He commended indigenous contractor, Abdul-Val, for what he described as an impressive job on the Karu roads.
Speaking on the Apo – Karshi Road, Wike recalled that the project was originally awarded in 2010 but suffered repeated delays.
He said the FCTA sought and obtained presidential approval to terminate the contract and re-award it to SCC, noting that the company’s seriousness is evident in its equipment and pace of work.
The Minister also inspected the Bwari–Kubwa and Gbazango–Kubwa roads, describing them as major infrastructure projects that will boost economic activities in the areas.
He stressed that the combination of city and satellite towns development would significantly improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth.
Addressing the issue of refuse littering along the Apo–Karshi Road, Wike issued a stern warning to the coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD).
“By Monday or Tuesday, if I still see that refuse, your job will be terminated. This is unacceptable and very embarrassing,” Wike added that the areas are no longer villages but fully developed communities.
