In a statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the Armed Forces of Nigeria AFN explained that Nigeria only maintains a long-standing and structured security partnership with the United States.
According to the DHQ, the partnership is based on mutual respect and is focused on areas such as capacity building, professional military education, intelligence sharing, logistics support and strategic dialogue aimed at tackling terrorism and other transnational security threats.
The statement stressed that all engagements with the United States are carried out in full respect of Nigeria’s sovereignty and within existing bilateral agreements.
The DHQ further disclosed that a recent two-day high-level Working Group meeting was held between senior U.S. officials and their Nigerian counterparts at the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The statement added that discussions included proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation, improving coordination and enhancing accountability in joint efforts to counter violent threats, while ensuring the protection of civilians and community safety.
Reassuring Nigerians, the Defence Headquarters stated that all defence partnerships entered into by Nigeria are transparent, guided by policy, and aligned with constitutional provisions.
