The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has debunked the allegation of non-payment of promotion arrears and withholding of funds meant for personnel welfare from some online media platforms dated 23rd January 2026 , describing it as false, baseless, misleading, and malicious.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Afolabi Babawale, the said publication is a campaign of calumny, deliberately sponsored to mislead the public, cause unnecessary tension, and malign the integrity of the Corps’ leadership.
The statement says that the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi does not control the payment of salary arrears, promotion arrears, or other emoluments stressing that the payment of arrears falls squarely under the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General, Budget Office of the Federation, and the Accountant General of the Federation.
It states that payment records shows clear progress, though the publication maliciously suggested that no arrears have been paid since 2022.
According to the statement, the current leadership of the Corps inherited 5 years of unpaid salary arrears upon assumption of duty in 2021, and with assiduous efforts and interface with government, the CG was able to clear the backlog from 2015 to 2019 where over 37,000 personnel benefited contrary to erroneous claims that he withheld funds meant for personnel welfare.

“Regarding the status of the 2020–2022 arrears, the Corps has followed due process regarding the payment of the arrears. Notably, the Finance, Budget, and Planning Departments of the Corps, on the directive of the CG, had applied to the Presidential Committee for the payment of 2020–2022 arrears, and the request has since been approved while the payment schedule is currently in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation awaiting release to the IPPIS for disbursement”.
It states that the 2023–2024 arrears are yet to be approved by the relevant authorities, as Government cannot disburse funds without presidential approval and budgetary release.
The statement also says that the 2025 promotion examination results were only released in December 2025, and the processing to include it in the budget is ongoing.
It states that the NSCDC remains committed to Personnel Welfare and the Corps’ leadership under Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, remains firmly committed to inclusive welfare, transparency, and accountability noting that the Corps will not be swayed or succumb to blackmail, cyberbullying, or any attempt by individuals or groups to undermine the credibility of the Agency.
However, the Corps urges the public, stakeholders, and the media to ignore any false publications aimed at sowing seeds of discord amongst the personnel and its leadership as Media organizations are also enjoined to always verify information through established channels and disengage from rushing to the press to run down personalities or Agencies.
The CG appeals to all personnel nationwide to remain calm and be patient with Government as they have promised to release the funds for disbursement in due course, adding that, no matter the level of distraction, he will continue to fight for the interest and welfare of his personnel.
