todayJanuary 26, 2026

Background

Plans to launch a Technology and Innovation Centre by the Federal Government College (FGC) Warri is on offing.

The Global President of the Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA), Dr. Godwin Amobi Alo, stated this as part of activities marking the school’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of academic excellence, unity, and leadership development in Abuja.

Dr. Alo emphasized that the initiative is designed to prepare students for the 21st-century global economy by providing hands-on learning in STEM disciplines, including robotics, artificial intelligence, programming, and virtual and augmented reality.

He explained that the centre will also support the Federal Government’s transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), allowing students to register for and take examinations on-site, aligning with the nation’s digital education agenda.

“This Technology and Innovation Centre is essential, not optional. It ensures our students are equipped with the skills to thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while fostering innovation and critical thinking,” Dr. Alo stated.

According to him, the school’s ₦3 billion Legacy Fund will also support a World-Class Sports Complex to promote physical and mental wellbeing, and a Post-College Scholarship Endowment to assist outstanding graduates in pursuing higher education or technical and vocational training.

“The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be staged in three phases in Lagos, Abuja and Warri to ensure broad participation.”

“Phase One will hold in Lagos on January 31, 2026, featuring an Anniversary Ball and Fund-Raising Dinner, Phase Two is scheduled in Abuja on February 5, 2026, including keynote addresses, panel discussions, advocacy for educational reform, and FEGOCOWOSA’s Annual General Congress and.

Phase Three, the Grand Finale, will take place in Warri from February 12–15, 2026, featuring a grand road carnival, commissioning of developmental projects, school inspection, a special assembly with old students, student luncheon, and an Awards Night on February 14.

Dr. Alo urged alumni, stakeholders, and the public to support the Legacy Fund, noting that strategic investment in education and skills development is vital for national competitiveness and human capital growth.

“FGC Warri continues to shape leaders and innovators, reinforcing its role as a STEM-ready institution contributing to Nigeria’s development,” he added.

Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru, former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the Diamond Jubilee, highlighted that the Technology and Innovation Centre aligns with national policies promoting technical, engineering, and STEM education.

She reiterated that the centre, along with the World-Class Sports Complex and Post-College Scholarship Endowment, will ensure students are well-prepared for tertiary education and equipped to thrive in the global innovation ecosystem.

The Chairman of the FCT Branch, Mr. Sanmi Ajayi, stressed the importance of coordination among committee members ahead of the Abuja event on February 5, 2026, calling for alignment and effective communication to ensure the success of all Diamond Jubilee activities.
