UCL: Osimhen Reacts on Galatasaray Draw Against Atlético Madrid

todayJanuary 22, 2026

Background

Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen has expressed his satisfaction with Galatasaray’s Matchday 7 draw against Spanish giants Atlético Madrid in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter.

The match, which saw Osimhen play the full 90 minutes at Rams Park, ended in a 1-1 draw between the hosts and Atlético.

Reacting after the game via the club’s website, the Super Eagles star praised his teammates’ resilience.

“We knew before the match that we would be playing against a strong opponent. I congratulate my teammates for their fight throughout the 90 minutes; we did a good job against a great opponent. The match was 50-50. We had chances to finish the game in some moments. I’m happy with our performance.”

Looking ahead to their next European test, the 26-year-old disclosed that Galatasaray will turn their focus back to the domestic league before traveling to face English Premier League side Manchester City in their final Champions League league phase game at the Etihad Stadium.

“Manchester City is one of the best teams in the world. We’ll take it one game at a time.

We’ll focus on the league first, then on that game. It won’t be easy, but I trust my team. I’m looking at it positively.

We can get something out of it. The most important thing is to have a good game, like we did against Atletico .”

The 1-1 result leaves Galatasaray in a strong position to finish within the top 24 and qualify for the knockout stage play-offs.

Currently sitting on 10 points, the Turkish side needs a result at the Etihad to guarantee their place in the two-legged play-offs, depending on other results across the final matchday a draw may work in their favour.
