Activities at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) were brought to a halt on Monday morning as the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) commenced an indefinite strike action over demands for improved working conditions.
As early as 8:00 a.m., the main gates of the FCTA/FCDA Secretariat were under lock and key, preventing staff and visitors from gaining access to the complex.
The closure followed a circular issued late Sunday night by the leadership of JUAC, directing all workers to remain at home in strict compliance with the industrial action.
In the notice titled “Code Remain at Home”, JUAC appealed to all staff to cooperate with the union to ensure the success of what it described as “agitations for better working conditions in FCTA.”
The statement warned workers not to report for duty, noting that a JUAC task force had been deployed to enforce total compliance.
“By this notice, all staff are advised to stay at home as the strike action declared by JUAC commences on Monday, January 19th, 2026. Do not come to work from tomorrow because JUAC taskforce will be on ground to ensure compliance.”
“The union leadership urged members to maintain the status quo until further directives, punctuating the message with solidarity slogans such as “Aluta Continua! Victoria Acerta!” and “Enough is enough!”
A visit by our FCT correspondent Remi to the secretariat complex confirmed that operations had been completely suspended, with JUAC restricting entry and no visible administrative activities taking place within the premises.
Although the full details of the workers’ demands were not immediately disclosed, the strike is believed to be connected to unresolved issues bordering on welfare, conditions of service, and implementation of agreed benefits.
As of the time of filing this report, management of the FCTA and FCDA had not issued an official response to the strike action.
The development raises concerns about possible disruption of essential administrative services in the Federal Capital Territory, should the industrial action persist.
