todayDecember 30, 2025

Background

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ says the fatal road accident that killed seven journalists from Gombe State highlights the need for improved road safety measures and responsible driving, especially for media professionals who frequently travel in the course of their duties.

The union was reacting to the deaths of the journalists, describing the incident as a major loss to the journalism profession in Gombe State and across Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Abuja on behalf of the National Executive Council and members nationwide, the NUJ National President
Alhassan Yahya, notes that the victims were dedicated media practitioners who served the public with professionalism, courage and integrity.

Yahya extends condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, as well as to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

The union says it stood in solidarity with the bereaved families and the Gombe media community, while praying for strength and comfort for those affected.
