The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC says it has removed two articulated vehicles hindering Free flow of traffic at KotonKarfe- Murtala bridge, Banda and Lokoja highway.
Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed who stated this while monitoring vehicular movement on the corridor said adequate personnel and logistics have also been deployed for effective traffic control.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed said the combined efforts of the FRSC, the Nigeria Police and other sister agencies had yielded visible results, as traffic, though heavy, had begun to move.
The FRSC boss identified broken-down trucks as the major cause of the gridlock, adding that proactive intervention by the Corps had helped to reduce the impact.
While calling on motorists to exercise patience and give maximum cooperation to personnel on the ongoing special operations, Mallam Shehu Mohammed commended the inter-agency collaboration, which led to the removal of the obstruction
He explained that the on-the-spot visit was to provide leadership support, motivation and encouragement to officers and other personnel who had been managing the traffic for days.
The FRSC Boss emphasized that the KotonKarfe-lokoja highway would continue to be free as long as drivers avoid lane indiscipline and reckless driving.
He assured Nigerians that the corps would continue to strengthen its collaboration with other security agencies for the safety of all road users.
The Kogi state Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Kankarofi said adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of officers and men deployed for the operation.
He said the visit of the FRSC Corps Marshal to the scene of the gridlock has boosted their morale .
Kankarofi expressed appreciation to the FRSC Corps Marshal for personally visiting the scene from Abuja, describing the visit as a strong demonstration of commitment to interagency collaboration.
CP Naziru however appealed to drivers of articulated vehicles to abide by traffic rules and regulations and respect the rights of other road users.
The two hours intervention by the Corps Marshal and Kogi state Commissioner of Police brought to an end a three day gridlock on that corridor.
