todayDecember 20, 2025

Background

The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police Command has recorded significant crime-fighting successes between October and December 2025, with one hundred and sixty suspects arrested and several victims rescued across the territory.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, made this known at a news conference in Abuja while presenting the Command’s scorecard since assuming office in October 2025.

He stated that the Command reviewed the security situation across the six Area Councils, identifying kidnapping, armed robbery, “one-chance” robbery, car theft and drug-related offences as major concerns.

CP Dantawaye explained that in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP kayode Egbetokun, the Command adopted intelligence-led policing, hotspot mapping, targeted clearance operations and strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies.

According to him, three hundred cases were reported within the period, leading to these arrests.

These included seven kidnapping cases with forty one suspects arrested and twenty four victims rescued, as well as sixty two armed robbery cases that resulted in thirty eight arrests.

The Commissioner said twenty six “one-chance” robbery cases led to twelve arrests, while thiry five car theft and vehicle snatching cases resulted in eleven arrests and the recovery of twenty stolen vehicles.

He added that ninety six suspects were charged to court, with sixty convictions secured.

The Command also recovered firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs, fourteen vehicles and about fifteen million Naira believed to be proceeds of crime.

CP Dantawaye stated that nine armed suspects were neutralised during operations, while six police officers lost their lives in the line of duty.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence-driven and community policing efforts to address security challenges in the FCT.
