The Federal Fire Service says it will effectively utilise its manpower to combat incidences of fire during and after the Harmattan and Christmas seasons.
To this end, the service has launched the Harmattan Fire Safety Campaign to curb bush burning and fireworks.
The Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Olumode-Adeyemi made this known during a media briefing in Abuja.
The Federal Fire Service Boss who emphasized that every fire starts small also called for safety measures both at home and in offices.
“Some of the mistakes is carelessness like overloading of the sockets, in a particular socket fridge, TV, home theatre and so on and most of these sockets, sorry to say some of them are not original, it causes fre, leaving all electrical appliances on unattended to even leaving cooking unattended to in the kitchen, this is festive period, there will be a lot of cooking, Nigerians should be careful and don’t leave their food unattended to, everybody must be fire conscious “.
Dr Samuel Olumode-Adeyemi noted that in line with the Service’s commitment to proactive emergency management, the Federal Fire Service would regularly convene strategic meetings of its management to assess operational readiness and strengthen preparedness especially during high risk periods.
“Federal Fire Service we are fully prepared for this harmattan period that is why today we are doing the first virtual meeting with all the Zonal Comptrollers and then the title is ” To Prevent Fire” This harmattan period, so to get them ever ready for this harmattan.”
“All our operational men, there is a standing rule, no leave, no break, you must be on duty during this period, there is nobody that is going on leave and nobody is going on break, so we have our men fully on ground “.
The CG however advised Nigerians to be fire conscious and support the officers and men of the service for a fire free Nigeria.
