The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochi Udeh has commissioned the Business Entrepreneurship Skills And Technology, BEST Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI.
On the occasion in Abuja, Dr Kingsley Tochi Udeh commended ACCI for the project which he said aligned with the Federal Government’s Commitment to innovation science, technology and private -sector -Ied development.
He stated that his Ministry would effectively partner the ACCI in the areas of training and skills acquisition development towards bridging the manpower skills gap in the country.
In a remark the President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu said the BEST Centre would provide necessary training and skills acquisition needed to create jobs and empower the teeming Nigerian youths.
Chief Obegolu stated that the Centre would also provide a practical platform where ideas are nurtured, talents are developed, and enterprises are strengthened.
“When I assumed office as President of this great Chamber, we recognized the important role the BEST Centre had already been playing in capacity building and skills development and we understood that no economy can grow sustainably without continuous investment in people, their knowledge, their skills, and their ability todnnovate and the decision to develop this new purpose-built structure was therefore a strategic step to expand the Centre’s capacity, enhance its training environment, and position it as a standard hub for both local and international training” He explained
According to him, the ACCI BEST Centre is designed to serve as a modern training and innovation facility that will deliver practical, industry-driven programmrs for entrepreneurs, MSMEs, professionals, and young people and it will host training in entrepreneurship, digital skills, innovations management, policy dialogue leadeship development and emerging technologies.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Council, ACCI BEST Centre, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba who designed the concept of the Centre said the BEST Centre has about eight training rooms, multi media gadget, constant electricity supply, cafe, library, work spaces for young innovators among other facilities needed for training and skills development.
Prof. Adesoji Adesugba who is also the 1st Deputy President of ACCI stated that the BEST Centre in the past five years has trained and graduated over four thousand people and partnering with with other organizations towards sustaining the standard of training and skills development in the Centre.
“We have many professionals who come in here to use the Centre as hub for carrying out their businesses and we also use the Centre to engage people who need specialized skills as well as training different students for different skills for ACCI members and the general public while we also have an employment bureau to enable us place those we train” Prof. Adesugba added.
Earlier, the Director of Business Entrepreneurship Skills And Technology, BEST Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, Dr. Tinuke Temitope said the newly commissioned ultra modern and world class BEST Centre said in few years time, the Centre intends to double the numbers of over four thousand people trained so far in the past five years stating that the Centre is open for partnership.
Dr. Tinuke Temitope explained that the primary objective of the BEST Centre is to support the development of more Enterprises especially for young Nigerian innovators.
“As a training Centre for ACCI, we want to ensure that what we give to our members and the entire business community will further empower them and make them economically viable,” She added.
