The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has impounded not less than 50 vehicles under a two hour special operation along Giri – Gwagwalada- Lokoja highway as part of activities to ensure safety of road users during the Christmas and New Year celebrations .
At a joint special Operations with the leadership of some Transport Unions, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed said the exercise was to educate motorists and enforce traffic rules for effective traffic management on the Giri – Gwagwalada-Lokoja route usually characterised with overloading of goods and passengers.
Mallam Mohammed, who was visibly angry with the attitude of motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, directed them to offload the passengers.
He said the corps had sought the cooperation of transport union leaders to bring sanity to the nation’s highways noting that appropriate steps would be taken to ensure that passengers removed from overloaded vehicles receive transport fares to board other vehicles to their destinations.
According to him, leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has made adequate provision to ensure that passengers do not bear the consequences.

The Corps Marshal said the corps will no longer tolerate what he described as madness and rascality associated with overloading on Nigerian roads.
He warned drivers to always obey traffic rules and give maximum cooperation to the Federal Road Safety Corps towards making the roads safe during and after the Yuletide.
He assured that mobile courts would be in session across the Thirty Six States and the FCT to prosecute traffic offenders during the Yuletide.
According to him, over thirty thousand officers and men of the Corps have been mobilized with adequate logistics for the special operations that will end in January 2026.
National President of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Mohammed said adequate measures have been put in place to check the excesses of motorists.
While calling on prospective travellers to board vehicles at designated motors parks, Alhaji Musa Mohammed said a task force had been constituted to monitor the activities of drivers on long journeys.
The two hours special operation was in collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the safety of personnel during the operation.
