todayDecember 10, 2025

Background

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, strengthening families and supporting vulnerable groups across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ene Obi Development Centre, EODC, in Abuja,
Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the new facility as a beacon of light for Nigerian women, girls and disadvantaged communities.

She said its focus on training, skills development and support services highlights the transformative impact of education and hard work.

“I believe this centre has the potential to be a game changer in our collective efforts to achieve gender equality.”

She pledged continued collaboration with partners and stakeholders, saying the ministry’s doors remain open to groups working on gender and social development issues.

Executive Director of the African Centre for Leadership,
Strategy and Development,
Dr. Otive Igbuzor urged the government to protect civic freedoms and uphold human rights.

He called on the National Assembly to pass the Reserved Seats Bill and encouraged civil society organizations to remain vocal in defending citizens’ interests.

Former First Lady of Imo State, Ngozi Okorocha, praised the centre’s founder, Ene Obi, describing her as a passionate advocate for women.

She said Nigeria has enormous potential that can be unlocked through greater inclusion and leadership.

ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Representative, Dr. Andrew Mamedu, also lauded Obi’s dedication, saying the organisation’s partnership with the EODC will support efforts to lift five million Nigerians out of poverty within nine years.

In her remark, EODC founder, Ene Obi said the centre aims to provide mentorship and opportunities for women and young people facing systemic barriers.

“We exist to champion gender equality, strengthen governance and human rights, support youth leadership and ensure that marginalized groups are not forgotten,”
she said.

She called on government agencies, development partners and the private sector to collaborate with the centre and hold it accountable to its mandate.
