Nigerian youths have been urged to explore new frontiers in scientific research and innovation in order to gain national recognition and contribute to solving the country’s pressing challenges.
The Chairman of the Advisory Board for Science, Professor Bart Nnaji stated this in Abuja at the Nigeria Prize for Science Roadshow.
Professor Nnaji stressed the importance of transforming research outcomes into commercially viable solutions.
He noted that the initiative would strengthen university- industry collaboration and create more effective pathways for the commercialization of scientific research.
According to Nnaji, scientific breakthroughs remain crucial to addressing Nigeria’s challenges in food security, healthcare delivery, and industrial development.
He described science as a national lifeline that must be nurtured to achieve sustainable progress.
Also speaking at the event, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, highlighted the need to improve education, upgrade infrastructure, and protect the environment.
Dr Horsfall noted that every scientific advancement directly impacts lives, aligning with NLNG’s vision of improving living standards sustainably.
Established in 2004, the Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation seeks to foster sustainable national development by promoting groundbreaking research and future-focused solutions.
The theme for the 2026 edition is “Innovations in ICT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Technologies for Development.”
