Akpabio Clears Air On N200bn Lawsuit Instituted Against Natasha

todayDecember 6, 2025

Background

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has cleared the Air On the ₦200 billion lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the report as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said suggestions that the suit was “just filed” were false and intended to distort public perception of the ongoing case.

According to the statement, the suit was instituted over three months ago, but its progress was briefly delayed by “routine administrative processes” and normal judicial procedures.

Udom explained that multiple attempts were made by the court’s bailiff to personally serve Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan with the originating processes, but each effort failed due to what he described as her “deliberate evasion of service,” as contained in a sworn affidavit before the court.

According to him, following these failed attempts, the court granted an order for substituted service in November.

Akpabio reiterated that legal disputes should be settled in the courts, not through “orchestrated narratives and staged outrage on social-media platforms.”

The Senate President also referenced her six-month suspension, which he described as a lawful disciplinary measure that she attempted to delegitimise through “digital agitation,” but ultimately served in full.

He called on Akpoti-Uduaghan to present the evidence she claims to possess.

Akpabio maintained that the law is guided by proof, procedure, and due process—not emotion or social media theatrics—and urged her to properly instruct her lawyers, to file her defence, and respond to the suit accordingly within the ambit of the law.
