As part of measures to address Nationwide Security Emergency, Security Experts have advised President Bola Tinubu to sign the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS Bill into law.
They gave the advice in Abuja while reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s directive on measures to address National Security Challenges confronting Nigeria.
One of the security experts, Retired Major General Abdullahi Sule said the advice became necessary towards protecting the nation’s forested region across the country.
He identified some forests bordering Nigeria as very porous hence the need to engage Officers and Men of NFSS who have been effectively trained by local and foreign formal security agencies over the years on intelligence gathering and security matters on ways of safeguarding lives and property of Nigerians most especially at the grassroots.
Another Security Expert and Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Babalola described NFSS as a key efficient Organization well positioned over the years through professional training to compliment the efforts of formal security agencies towards overcoming the current security challenges facing Nigeria.
While commending President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the withdrawal of Policemen from VIPs and recruitment of 30,000 Police Officers and that of the Armed Forces, the Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police stated that constitutional recognition of NFSS would further strengthen the nation’s security apparatus.
On.his part, a Security Strategist, Ambassador Kingsley Uche said signing the NFSS Bill into law would boost the actualization of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s led administration in the area of security for all Nigerians.
According to him, the move will also contribute to the productivity of the Forest Guards set up to safeguard Nigeria’s forested region.
Commenting on the issue, the Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, NFSS, Dr Joshua Osatimehin commended the efforts of President Bola Tinubu, the Service Chiefs, Department of State Security Service, DSS and the Nigeria Police Force towards the successes recorded so far in the rescue of the 38 worshippers I’m Ekuru, Kwara State and 24 Students of a Girl’s School in Kebbi State.
Dr Joshua Osatimehin said NFSS would continue to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu towards ensuring that Nigeria overcomes her security challenges.
The Commander General of NFSS also used the opportunity in appealing to President Bola Tinubu to ascent to the NFSS Bill to further boost the performance of the Service in combating banditry, kidnapping, boko haram and other forms of crimes in the country.
