Adamawa State Governor’s Wife Calls For End To GBV

todayNovember 26, 2025

Background

Wife of the governor of Adamawa state, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri has officially launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with a strong call to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

The opening ceremony and press briefing took place at the conference hall of her office at the Government House, Yola.

The First Lady noted that the 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign annually observed from November 25 to December 10, initiated by the United Nations to advocate for the protection and empowerment of women and girls.

This year’s theme, “UNiTE: End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” focuses on protecting women’s rights in the rapidly evolving digital world.

Hajiya Lami highlighted that violence against women and girls remains a global human rights crisis, affecting one in every three women worldwide.

She noted that digital safety is no longer optional, but is essential for true gender equality.

She stressed that technology should be a tool for learning, innovation, empowerment, and connection, not a weapon for cyber-bullying, harassment, stalking, identity theft, and exploitation.

As a GBV Champion and advocate for women and girls, the First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that protect the rights and well-being of vulnerable groups.

Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri called on all stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, educational institutions, security agencies, tech companies, parents, and civil society to unite and take action.

The Wife of the governor assured that this year’s 16 Days of Activism will be impactful, engaging, and memorable, with activities designed to educate, support, and empower women and girls across the State.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, development partners, government agencies, and organizations for their collaboration and dedication to the cause.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Neido Geoffrey Kofulto appreciated the Adamawa state governor’s wife for consistently championing the 16 Days of Activism in a remarkable and result-driven manner.

Representatives from UNFPA, UNOCHA, and the GBV Sub-Sector also shared their goodwill messages, commending the First Lady for her commitment to supporting women, children, and vulnerable groups in Adamawa State.
