Judges Conference 2025: We’re Building A Stronger Judiciary – Adejumo

Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) Abuja, Rtd Justice Babatunde Adejumo, has disclosed that the forthcoming 2025 All Nigeria Judges’ Conference is targeted at building a confident and independent Judiciary.

The Conference, Justice Adejumo said, is a biennial gathering of Judges, which provides a unique platform for judicial officers from across the country to engage in roburst discussions, and exchange ideas on issues that are central to the administration of justice.

At a pre-conference media briefing on Thursday, the NJI Administrator submitted that “confidence in the judiciary is the cornerstone of democracy”.

“It is the assurance that justice will be dispersed fairly, impartially, and without fear or favour.

“A judiciary that commands confidence is one that strengthens the rule of law, protects fundamental rights and upholds the values of equity and fairness” Justice Adejumo posited.

At this year’s conference, Justice Adejumo hinted that Judges shall examine how best to reinforce judicial independence, enhance ethical standards and ensure that the courts remain accessible, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the people.

The Administrator maintained that the NJI, as the training arm of the judiciary, remains committed to equipping judicial officers and their supporting staff with the knowledge, skills and values required to meet the challenges of modern adjudication, through capacity building, research, and continuous education.

He emphasized that the institute also strives to ensure that judges are not only competent but also courageous in the discharge of their judicial responsibilities

“With the approval of Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN and Chairman, Board of Governors of the National Judicial Institute, Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Administrator disclosed that this years’ Conference theme is, “Building a Confident Judiciary”.

In view of the foregoing, Justice Adejumo said the NJI recognizes the indispensable role of the media in their process, especially judiciary correspondents and other journalists, whom he acknowledges serve as the bridge between the courts and the public.

The media briefing according to the Administrator, “is therefore an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with you, to share information about 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of Superior courts, and to reaffirm our commitment to continuing judicial education, training and research.”

He urged members of the media to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in coverage of judicial matters.

“Together, we can build a judiciary that inspires trust, commands respect, and contributes meaningfully to the consolidation of democracy in Nigeria,” Justice Adejumo added;
