Tinubu, APC Unstoppable In 2027 Elections – Senator Kalu

todayNovember 11, 2025

Background

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) remain unbeatable in the 2027 presidential election, describing the contest as “Tinubu versus Tinubu.”

Speaking with members of the Senate Press Corps at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the Abia North Senator stated that the APC enjoys solid grassroots support and remains deeply rooted across the country.

“Has he gotten anyone contesting against him? The election is Tinubu vs Tinubu, just like Soludo vs Soludo. The President has no options,” Kalu said. “Our party is fully on ground and with the people we will continue to do all we can to help the Nigerian masses.”

Kalu, a former Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, assured that the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio remains firmly committed to supporting President Tinubu’s economic recovery initiatives through people-oriented legislation.

“Whatever the problem, the Senate is focused on making laws that will help President Tinubu tackle the economic challenges Nigerians are facing,” he said. “We are determined to ensure Nigerians can eat three times a day.”

Reacting to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on killings in Nigeria and America’s planned response, Kalu said Trump “told the truth,” stressing that attacks in Nigeria affect both Christians and Muslims and must be condemned without bias.

“He said the truth. Nigerians are being killed whether they are Christians or Muslims,” Kalu maintained. “There are jihadists who just want to destroy Nigeria. We should blacklist them without pity so that they can be smoked out.”

The lawmaker disclosed that he had personally discussed Nigeria’s security issues with two former U.S. Presidents—one Republican and one Democrat—as well as six sitting U.S. Senators, who expressed readiness to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism.

“Before President Trump speaks, the American intelligence community must have verified where these terrorists are,” Kalu said. “You can see the Nigerian Air Force is already acting, possibly with intelligence shared by the U.S., to bomb terrorist hideouts. That’s the right approach.”

Kalu, who described himself as pro-America, partly blamed global insecurity on the U.S. invasion of Libya and Iraq, which he said triggered the proliferation of arms across Africa.

“When Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein were killed, it became a problem. They were maintaining their borders. After their deaths, arms and ammunition spilled all over the world, and we are now suffering the consequences,” he explained.

He clarified that the U.S. is not targeting Tinubu’s administration but is focused on eliminating jihadist groups threatening Nigeria’s peace.

“Nigerians are clapping while some political opponents think the U.S. is after Tinubu’s government. No! They are after the jihadists,” he said.

On speculations that Abia State Governor Alex Otti may defect from the Labour Party to the APC, Kalu dismissed any claims of coercion by the ruling party.

“Let’s be honest, neither I, other senators, the Senate President, nor President Tinubu has ever forced anyone to join our party,” Kalu said. “I have met with my Governor; he’s my brother and was my banker. Whether he joins or not it is his choice.”

He, however, vowed to work wholeheartedly for the APC at both the state and national levels.

“As for me, I will work 100% for the APC, campaign in my state, and ensure victory for President Tinubu and all APC candidates,” he pledged.

Kalu also expressed confidence that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo would eventually join the APC after his tenure.

“Soludo is a progressive like myself, President Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and the governors of Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu. He has no alternative but to join us—it’s confirmed,” he said.

On Nigeria’s economic outlook, Kalu admitted that citizens are facing hardship but noted that macroeconomic indicators are improving.

“As a businessman, I feel the pain too. The macro economy is doing well, but the micro economy is not. Foreign investors are coming in, and soon, the gains will trickle down so people can eat and return to farming,” he said.

He added that both President Tinubu and the Senate are working tirelessly to revive the economy and strengthen food security.

“President Tinubu has put his life into fixing the economy, and the Senate is doing its best to ensure Nigerians feel the impact,” Kalu noted.

Responding to rumours of moves to impeach the Senate President, Kalu dismissed the claims as a mere “family misunderstanding,” insisting that the Senate remains united.

“There were attempts, but we didn’t allow it. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” he assured.

Senator Kalu’s remarks reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu, confidence in APC’s dominance, pro-U.S. stance on counterterrorism and optimism that Nigeria’s economic and security challenges can be surmounted through the joint efforts of the executive, legislature, and international partners.
