Kapital FM 92.9 The Station that Rocks!
The Chairperson Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Kaduna State Chapter, Hajiya Sahura Maidoki wants Nigerians to prioritize their health through regular medical check for early detection of diseases.
Hajiya Maidoki made the call while speaking with residents of Sabon Gero community, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State during a medical outreach organized by the Association.
She explained that the outreach was geared towards assisting the less privileged in the society, particularly women and children to mark the international day of the girl child.
Hajiya Maidoki noted that the initiative which was supported by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, ENT, MAH Care Foundation and Sight Savers is part of the association’s way of giving back to the society.
While appreciating her Executive and the entire members of the Assocation for the support, Hajiya Maidoki urged Kaduna state government and other organizations to support NAWOJ’s programmes for the benefit of the society.
Also speaking, a former NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Jummai Yerima urged the community to make judicious use of the drugs given to them, saying that the three days Programme outlined by the association which includes prison visitation, medical outreach and a seminar is highly commendable, urging them to continue the good work.
On his part, the Sarkin Matasa of Sabon Gero, Uba Sanusi Musa applauded the gesture of NAWOJ Kaduna, describing it as the first of its kind in the community.
Alhaji Musa, who called for the government’s presence in the area, said the community does not have a primary health centre.
Some of the Participants who spoke to Radio Nigeria, Bilikisu Hamisu and Fatima Yusuf expressed joy saying they were in need of medical check and the coming of NAWOJ has helped them to meet such a need.
The medical outreach featured ear and eye screening, consultations, and administration of drugs worth over five hundred thousand naira, free of charge to over two hundred women and children in the community.
