House Wants FRSC To Expedite Issuance Of Driver’s License

todayOctober 22, 2025

Background

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and the Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO, to address the growing backlog in the processing and issuance of driver’s licenses across the country.

This followed a motion moved by member representing Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai in Rivers State, Felix Nwaeke, who expressed concern over the prolonged delays many Nigerians face in obtaining their permanent driver’s licenses.

Leading the debate, Nwaeke noted that applicants often wait between three to six months for biometric capturing and nearly a year before receiving their permanent licenses.

He said that many motorists are forced to rely on temporary licenses, which expire every three months, subjecting them to repeated renewals and inconvenience.

The lawmaker warned that the situation, if left unaddressed, would continue to cause undue hardship for citizens.

The House, therefore, resolved to urge the FRSC and VIO to identify and resolve the causes of the backlog within a reasonable timeframe.

It also mandated the Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission to investigate the delays and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
