In a renewed push towards sustainable urban growth, experts in the building sector gathered to assess the latest Nationally Determined Contributions, NDC Scorecard, which measures progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
The discussion focused on how environmental planning and green infrastructure are shaping the development of resilient communities across the nation.
According to the President, the Green Building Council of Nigeria, GBCN Mr Danjuma Waniko, the NDC Scorecard serves as a critical tool for tracking how well the country was integrating climate action into its policies and projects.
Mr Waniko noted that the NDC score card provided measurable indicators that reflect the nation’s efforts in reducing carbon emissions, improving waste management, promoting renewable energy, and ensuring inclusive urban planning.
GBCN’s Education and Knowledge Development exert, Usman Abdurrahman emphasized that building resilience in communities goes beyond infrastructure but involves strengthening social systems, empowering local leadership, and ensuring that vulnerable populations were not left behind in climate adaptation efforts.
On her part ,the Technical Lead Sangeetha Ramaraj maintained that the nation continues to align its climate commitments with the SDGs.
Mr Micheal Baka, a member of GBCN, called for increased investment, stronger policy enforcement, and enhanced collaboration between government, civil society, and the private sector for actionable regulations within the building environment.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to foster sustainable cities and communities that can withstand environmental and economic shocks — paving the way for a more resilient future.
