todayOctober 8, 2025

Background

Stakeholders in the building sector have called for deliberate and collaborative efforts to align national climate goals with local action towards sustainable building, low-carbon emission, and resilient communities.

Speaking at the North-Central Regional Workshop on Sustainable Building Projects in Abuja, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the drive for decarbonization in Nigeria’s building environment can only be achieved through effective partnership.

Mr. Dangiwa, who was represented by Dr. Japhet Musa, described the workshop as timely, noting that it would further advance the course of sustainable urban development.

He emphasized that urban development goes beyond constructing buildings or infrastructure, as it involves deepening communities, strengthening ecosystems, and creating inclusive spaces where citizens can thrive.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience across sectors through policy standards.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration
FCTA, Mr. Richard Dauda said the administration has continued to partner with the private sector in housing delivery for different segments of society while ensuring adherence to the Abuja master plan and environmental impact assessments.

In his remarks, the President, Green Building Council, Mr. Danjuma Waniko stressed the need for collective effort in promoting a sustainable urban future through green building initiatives.

He also called for stronger partnerships to transform policies and reforms into actionable regulations within the building environment.
