Dr. Ogunbiyi emerge Rowing Canoe & Sailing Federation President

Background

Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing Federation has followed the directives of Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) to conduct elections, seeing Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi emerge as president.

The election conducted on Saturday, 4th October, at the Media Center Package “A” of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

An elated federation president elect who scored 13 votes to win the election Dr. Ogunbiyi in an interview, told sports news men that a lot of work has gone into the federation in terms of development of the sports in the country.

“Over the last 10 to 15 years, the Federation has gained national recognition through sacrifice and commitment. We must now
build on that foundation to take rowing, canoeing, and sailing to the next level.”

He went further to say him and the board will consolidate on what their predecessor has done and even do better.

“We will consolidate on what has been achieved and, with the support of government agencies and corporate sponsors, I believe that within one to two years we will witness massive progress in this sport.”

Also the Vice President of the federation Kayode Abdulazeez echoed that the federation will focus on infrastructural development.

“Nigeria is blessed with diverse water bodies, and we must make rowing, canoeing, and sailing inclusive sports developed across all regions.”

Meanwhile during the process the chairman of the electoral committee Mr Olumide Bamiduro said they had to follow due procedures in the conduct of the elections and charge the board members to work as a team in order to move the federation to the highest level.

“This is one of the freest and fairest elections conducted in recent times. My charge to the new board is to work in unity and harmony to move the Federation forward.”

He also commended the management of the National Sports Commission under the leadership of Malam Shehu Dikko,
Chairman, and Dr. Bukola Olopade, Secretary-General, for providing the
enabling environment for the successful conduct of the polls.
