FCTA Flags Off Construction Of N20 Road, Announces Focus On Health Sector

todaySeptember 25, 2025

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Dr. Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the construction of Arterial Road N20, Solomon Lar Way, linking Road N5, Obafemi Awolowo Way, to the Airport Expressway, with assurances that the administration is now expanding its development drive to the health sector.

During the ceremony in Abuja, Wike noted that every sector would receive the required attention for the development of the city and the benefit of its residents.

“Now we have also entered into the health sector. I have said that no sector will be left untouched. We will make sure every sector is given the attention that is required,” he stated.

According to the FCT Minister, the project reflects President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the Federal Capital will rank among the leading cities of the world before the end of the current administration.

“I want to assure residents of Abuja that,
by the grace of God, before the first tenure of Mr. President ends, Abuja will compete with most cities in the world.”

The minister pledged continuity in project execution and warned contractors against abandoning sites.

“I don’t want a situation where you go to a site and then pull out from the site. That will be very embarrassing. Now that you have moved to site, remain there until the job is completed,” Wike warned.

He assured that the FCTA will provide adequate funds for contractors to complete projects without delays. “By the time this road is completed, this N20, starting from N5, all of us will attest to the fact that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, the narrative has changed.”

The minister further assured residents that both the city centre and satellite towns will witness equal development, describing his promises as a “bank draft” under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I want to assure residents of Abuja that, by the grace of God, before the first tenure of Mr. President ends, Abuja will compete with most cities in the world. That is a bank draft I have given to you to go home with,” he declared.

Appealing for community support, Wike urged youths to cooperate with the construction company handling the project and discouraged acts of extortion.

“I sincerely appeal to everybody to support the company. Let them have peace. Let them not unnecessarily extort money from them. And I appeal to the company to ensure that employment is given to our youths,” he said.

Wike emphasized that infrastructure development under President Tinubu is not only transforming Abuja but also creating jobs for residents.

He commended the President for his commitment and appreciated the Area Council Chairmen for supporting the administration. “We are all partners in progress,” he added.

The Acting Executive Secretary, Dauda Yohana, while giving an overview of the project, said the eight-lane road with street lights was awarded in March by the Federal Executive Council and will be delivered in 24 months.
