The former National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje, has called for more harmonious and productive relationship between political predecessors and their successors for sustainable national growth.
Ganduje stated this in Abuja during a courtesy visit by members of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN).
According to Ganduje, leadership should be seen as a selfless call to service rather than a position of personal gain or rivalry.
He stressed the importance of continuity, cooperation, and mutual respect between those who have left office and those currently in power, stating that such relationships are essential for policy continuity, institutional development, and peace across the country.
“Leadership is a call to serve, and we must understand that everyone has a role to play in the growth of our nation,” Ganduje said.
“We should focus on building a reliable and respectful relationship between predecessors and their successors. This is essential for fostering growth, stability, and progress”.
“Everybody is a servant in leadership, nobody is God. There will always be moments when leaders are unavailable, and this is where the role of deputies become critical” he emphasized.
He noted that deputy governors, though often underestimated, play a crucial role in governance and administration, especially in times of crisis or absence of the governor.
Ganduje commended the Forum for its proactive engagement in national issues, describing it as a “valuable platform for continued contribution to Nigeria’s development, even outside active office.”
“We must continue flying the flag. The participation of this forum in national discussions is not only commendable but necessary. It shows that leadership does not end when one leaves office—it is a lifelong commitment to serving the people and supporting those currently in power,” he added.

He expressed appreciation for the work being done by the FFDGN and pledged his full support for the forum’s future initiatives and programs.
“I am committed to working with this body to ensure that your objectives are realized. Your experience, wisdom, and insights are invaluable assets to our country,” Ganduje stated
In his address, the Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, Dr. Chris Akomas, congratulated Ganduje on his successful tenure as APC National Chairman and lauded his contributions to the growth of the party and the country’s democratic process.
Akomas also used the occasion to formally invite Ganduje to the Forum’s upcoming National Conference, scheduled to hold from October 28 to 29, which will bring together former deputy governors, key political leaders, and stakeholders to discuss national unity, democratic consolidation, and sustainable development.
“We are pleased to have you as one of our own, and we acknowledge the leadership and dedication you demonstrated during your time in office. The upcoming national conference will be a significant platform for dialogue and reflection, and we hope you will honor us with your presence,” Akomas stated.
He revealed that one of the grand patrons of the Forum, former President Goodluck Jonathan, is expected to attend the conference as a special guest, further underscoring the importance of the event.
