The Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CDOWA) FCT Command has organized a food relief intervention for its members, wives of fallen heroes, officers, and men of the NSCDC, FCT Command.
The intervention, which was in partnership with Foodbank Naija, provided food relief for four hundred and fifty (450) beneficiaries as well as empowerment lectures to boost the acumen of its members.
The Chairperson of CDOWA FCT Command, Mrs Olayinka Odumosu, said the intervention was not just about sharing food items but extending love, unity and mutual support within their community as wives who understand the importance of standing together especially in difficult times.
“The essence of the outreach is simple but profound: to support the welfare of members and officers to provide a little foodstuffs package for four hundred and fifty (450) beneficiaries and to affirm our commitment to the well – being of those who serve and those who stand behind them”.
Mrs. Odumosu, who explained that the outreach which is the third in the last two years was intended to support CDOWA members and urged all beneficiaries to embrace not just the physical nourishment, but mental and emotional empowerment that the programme offers.
“As backbone of our families and communities, I urge you to think creatively and explore new opportunities and forge new paths, build stronger families, and uplift one another through encouragement, understanding, and love.”
She lauded the National President of CDOWA, Hajiya Aishatu Abubakar Audi, for the support and encouragement, noting that the endorsement of her initiative fuels her drive to serve better.
Mrs. Odumosu also expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Foodbank Naija for partnering with CDOWA, saying that their generosity and vision aligns with her own initiative.
In a lecture, tagged “Women and Economic Survival: Creative Paths to Family Sustainability,” the guest speaker – the mandate Secretary, Women Affairs Secretariat Dr. Adedayo Benjamin- Laniyi said the gesture was about patriotic action, the power of love that binds the nation together, as sharing is the power of love.
Dr Benjamin – Laniyi, noted that the event was a new destination for food security in the Federal Capital Territory and charged women to keep thriving to do something distinctive to become leaders of impact noting that security in food is security for the nation.
The chairman/CEO of Foodbank Naija, Mr. Kingsley Nnadi, said hunger is not just the absence of food, but the absence of opportunity, dignity and hope, adding that the organization is committed to change, determined to speak for the voiceless and willing to serve, noting that their support is borne out of their determination that, no child should cry to sleep from hunger.
