Leverage Capacity Building For Improved Output – Interior Minister Tasks Its Agencies

Background

Agencies under the Ministry of Interior have been urged to leverage capacity building for improved output.

The Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo gave the advice at the end of a three day retreat on Performance Contracting for the year 2025 by the Ministry in Suleja Niger State.

The Minister who urged the agencies to be more vibrant to deliver on the signed contract also called on them to ensure they always align their vision with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the successes recorded in the ministry is a testament to the power of coordinated action in solving national challenges.

While stating that last year’s performance bond moved the Ministry’s rating from 62% to 85%, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged the agencies to target 100%.

“Can we see the difference in the ministry of Interior and the agencies in the last one year? Yes, when we did the last retreat we were 62% , now we moved to 85% , I want 100%”.

Speaking with newsmen after the signing of the performance bond, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi reiterated the Corps readiness to ensure utmost professionalism in delivering its mandate.

” What we are going to concentrate on is how to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians in terms of our mandates that have been assigned to us through our acts, so I think going forward like I said you are going to see a lot of improvement, I want to reel out our detailed operational strategies and of course we are going to chart a very formidable methods of how to achieve the strategies “.

On his part, the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche said the retreat would add value to the service.

“It’s all about performance, it’s all about upping our games, it’s all about signing a bond to let the Nigerian public know that it’s not business as usual, like my Minister will say , it’s business unusual , we have to go back and sit down and see how we can strengthen mechanism that will make us begin to perform and give value to our job”.

The Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service Samuel Adeyemi pledged to ensure positive transformation in the service.

“Well it’s a new chapter and definitely we must deliver, this retreat is an eye opener so definitely by next retreat there will be positive impact in the fire service, Nigerians will see a new fire service “.

The retreat with the theme, ” From Plans To Results, Strengthening Institutional Performance In The Ministry Of Interior” was organised to access and evaluate the performance of agencies under the Ministry as well as to chart the way forward for the attainment of the renewed hope agenda.

The Minister signed the performance bond with the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, the Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service Olumode Samuel Adeyemi and the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission, Bisoye Coker-Odusote while that of the Nigeria Immigration Service will be signed when the Comptroller General Kemi Nana Nandap is available.
