Kogi Govt Moves To Increase Number Of Medical Professionals

Salem University Lokoja is to partner with the Kogi State Ministry of Health in transforming the State’s specialist hospital to a teaching hospital.

This is part of plans by the institution to establish a Faculty of Medical Sciences.

The State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, disclosed this at a meeting with the Management of the Institution led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Alowo Akubo in Lokoja.

Expressing the state’s eagerness in producing competent healthcare professionals, Doctor Abdulazeez noted that the initiative will address the shortage of qualified medical professionals in health facilities in the state.

He emphasized the commitment of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration in producing medical doctors from state-owned universities.

The Health Commissioner also highlighted the administration’s concerted efforts to enhance the availability of medical professionals through the accreditation of medical science faculties at state tertiary institutions, specifically in Anyigba and the Confluence University of Technology in Osara.

To this end, he said the administration has secured accreditation for both universities to offer medical science Programmes.

The state Commissioner for Education, Mr.Wemi Jones, in a remark described, the proposal as a significant step towards enhancing the educational system of the state through the contributions of the private sector.

Mr Jones expressed optimism that the partnership would have a positive impact on the health sector, particularly in the provision of human resources.
