The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says over 505,906 citizens have participated in its pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR since its designated portal was activated five days ago.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this in Abuja during a roadshow organised by the commission to flag off the 2025 CVR exercise.
Professor Yakubu, represented by an INEC National Commissioner, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, said that the figure was a testament that Nigerians believed in democracy and INEC’s effort to further strengthen the electoral process.
Yakubu said that the CVR highlighted a significant step of INEC’s effort to deliver credible elections and to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
The INEC chairman noted that the CVR, which started with online pre-registration would commence in- person registration next week in all INEC Local Government Areas (LGA) and State Offices nationwide.
He urged all citizens who are 18 years and above, and those who want to update or transfer their voter records, to seize the opportunity to do so.
He also appealed to all political parties, the civil society, the media, and all relevant stakeholders to support the exercise by joining the commission in creating the much-needed awareness for citizens to participate.
In an interview ,the Director Voter Education and Publicity – Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi expressed the commission’s readiness for the in-person registration across its offices nationwide.
