More than one million young Nigerians have signed up to join the Take Action Campaign (TAC 2027) just a week after it was launched, a development campaign organisers describe as a major breakthrough for youth-led democracy.
The campaign, launched by the Youth in Parliament Forum, YIPF, seeks to galvanize political participation among Nigerians aged 25 and above ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement in Abuja, the Director General of the Take Action Campaign
Tony Nwulu, said the campaign aims to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s youth population and leadership structures that have remained largely inaccessible to them.
“This isn’t just a data point. It is a declaration,” Mr Nwulu said. “Young people across the country are stepping up and sending a clear message they’re ready to lead, legislate, and transform Nigeria.”
Mr Nwulu, who previously served as a member of the House of Representatives and sponsored the Not Too Young To Run Act, said the high response rate reflects growing political consciousness among young Nigerians.
“This campaign is our answer to years of exclusion and political marginalisation,”
“The youth are no longer waiting for permission to participate. They’re creating their own platforms.”he said
TAC 2027 is structured to not only support potential candidates but also to educate and mobilise millions of first-time and returning voters.
The campaign’s target is to register at least 20 million young voters ahead of the 2027 polls.
Spokesperson for the campaign, Ivie Adidi said young people now have a platform that matches their energy and aspirations.
“If you’ve ever dreamed of changing your community or running for office, this is your moment,” she said. “You don’t need political godfathers, you need courage, a clear vision, and the will to act.”
The campaign has quickly gained traction on social media and in communities, with volunteers and coordinators taking the message to campuses, streets, and rural areas.
Observers say the early momentum reflects a shift in political culture, especially as the country prepares for elections in which young voters are expected to play a pivotal role.
“We are witnessing the early sparks of what could become one of the most significant youth-led political transformations in Nigeria’s democratic history,” said Mr Nwulu. “This is only the beginning.”
The Take Action Campaign plans to host town hall meetings, political boot camps, and candidate endorsement forums in the coming months.
