The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nyesom Wike, has called on critics to acknowledge and appreciate the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in delivering the dividends of democracy.
Speaking during a live media parley in Abuja, Wike dismissed claims that his administration was concentrating development efforts only in high-profile government districts without involving key stakeholders.
He described such assertions as either misinformed or intentionally misleading.
Highlighting the administration’s inclusive approach, Dr Wike recalled visiting all six area councils in the FCT upon assuming office with youth groups, traditional rulers, and women leaders to identify and prioritize their needs.
Wike also questioned the credibility of those claiming there has been no stakeholders engagement investors, adding that sustainable infrastructure, including roads, were essential for attracting investors.
According to the FCT Minister, the consultations led to the establishment of the Youth Secretariat and the Women’s Secretariat, an initiative he said had never existed in Abuja prior to this administration.
“We engage stakeholders, Can you provide infrastructure without proper urban planning? People should appreciate this government.”
“These developments came as a result of our engagement with Mr. President. What are people talking about, non-engagement? Who are the stakeholders? There has been engagement.
“What brings investors? It’s not slogans. When investors see solid infrastructure, they are motivated to establish private universities, hospitals, or agricultural ventures.” Wike noted.
He emphasized that performance should be recognized regardless of political preference.“You must appreciate when a government is doing well, you don’t have to like the person in charge”.
Wike reiterated that despite the challenges, President Tinubu’s administration is committed to addressing them and improving the lives of Nigerians, but however said no one should expect the government to resolve long-standing issues overnight.
“This administration inherited numerous challenges. You can’t expect it to be fixed in two years what hasn’t been done in over a decade.”
