Wike Signs MoU to Build Abuja City Walk Inspired by Dubai

todayJuly 24, 2025

Background

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAG International Links Limited for the development of City Walk Abuja, a new urban hub modeled after Dubai’s iconic City Walk.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Abuja, Wike emphasized the FCT Administration’s commitment to attracting foreign investment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

The project, covering about 200 hectares along the airport expressway, has received full development approval and a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), allowing immediate commencement.

Wike stressed that this agreement includes clear timelines and revocation clauses to prevent land speculation.

He warned that any investor who fails to meet the development terms will face land revocation.

He also stressed that the foundation must be laid by August 2025 and
one phase of the project completed by May 2026 to coincide with the President’s third year in office.

He acknowledged delays caused by bureaucratic hurdles but assured that measures have been taken to fast-track the project. Wike expressed confidence in MAG International’s seriousness, noting their preparedness and development plans.

Dr. Kassim Gidado, Executive Director of MAG International, praised the FCT Minister for his support, noting that the project will significantly revitalize the Lugbe area and the impact could surpass Dubai’s City Walk and London’s Canary Wharf.

Dr. Gidado assured that the Abuja City Walk will trigger massive economic regeneration and urban transformation, echoing what occurred in London’s Canary Wharf development.

Wike concluded by reaffirming the FCTA’s readiness to collaborate with serious investors to create jobs and foster sustainable development in the FCT.
