todayJuly 18, 2025

Background

Female students in Kogi State have been urged to prioritize menstrual hygiene to prevent Urinary and Reproductive Tract Infections.

The Head of Department, Family Medicine, Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Doctor Adefunmilola Onifade made the call during a free distribution of sanitary pads to students by an NGO, JopalJiks, Pad a Girl-Child Initiative at GYB Model Government Science Secondary School Adankolo, Lokoja.

Addressing the students, Doctor Onifade highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene, stressing the need to use sanitary pads instead of other things that could expose them to infection.

She however, discouraged the use of pieces of clothes which she said leads to various infections.

Doctor Onifade further stressed the importance of regular bathing and changing of sanitary pads every six hours, advising students with heavy flow to change them more frequently.

The Founder of the Jopaljiks, Pad A Girl-Child Initiative, Ajifa Ainoko, appealed to Government and Private Institutions to support school girls, by providing sanitary pads, stressing that, no girl should miss school due to menstrual cycle.

She encouraged the female students to be courageous and pursue their dreams without any form of hindrance.
