The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has restated its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible by-election in Kogi
State.
The new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Kogi state, Doctor Oliver Tersoo Agundu stated this during a meeting with stakeholders in Lokoja.
Doctor Agundu, who announced that the commission has fixed sixteenth of August 2025 for the by-election to hold across the country, stressed his resolve to ensure inclusive and transparent polls in the state.
According to him, campaigns by political parties are expected to commence on the second of August and end twenty-four hours before the election as stipulated by the electoral laws.
Doctor Agundu who said the by-election would be held in Dekina, Okura state constituency, solicited the support of political parties, the media and other stakeholders to deliver a smooth and credible by-election.
He stressed the need for the media and political parties to verify information from the right official sources, shun fake news and unverified claims that could affect the electoral process.
The REC further stated that only registered voters with Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, would be allowed to vote in the by- election.
Doctor Agundu also revealed that shortly after the by-election, INEC would commence the voter enrollment exercise in preparation for the upcoming general election.
