The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has proposed a shift in Africa-EU security partnerships, advocating an African-led framework with EU support.
Kalu, who made the call during a meeting with Ms. Ingeborg Ter Laak and Mr Benjamin Oppermann on the sidelines of his engagements at the European Union Parliament in Brussels Belgium Cited the ineffectiveness of direct European military intervention in Africa.
He suggested strengthening African institutions, such as the ECOWAS Standby Force, and promoting joint financial instruments to enhance security cooperation.
Kalu emphasized the need for African ownership and EU support to address security challenges.

The deputy speaker, who is leading a delegation of the Pan African Parliament, also proposed regular joint committee meetings between the Pan-African Parliament and EU Parliament committees to ensure effective implementation and accountability.
