A group of former local government chairmen from Abia State, cutting across party lines, have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The group, under the banner of the South East Forum of Former Local Government Chairmen, made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Led by Frank Osita, former chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, the group pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Osita praised Mr Kalu’s performance in office and commended his initiative, Renewed Hope Partners, RHP,
designed to promote the president’s development agenda.
“We’ve come to align with you and support the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said. “As grassroots leaders, we are well-positioned to drive inclusive development and ensure our region benefits from national progress.”

Mr Kalu, who once served as a local government chairman himself, welcomed the support and described the formation of the forum as a model for unity and collaboration.
“Your coming together is symbolic. It shows a readiness to place national development above politics,” he said.
In a separate meeting with former local government chairmen from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also held in Umuahia, Mr Kalu reiterated the need for unity beyond party lines.
The PDP delegation, led by Chinasa Iboko, also expressed support for the Deputy Speaker and lauded his efforts in championing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill, which recently received a presidential assent.
