Women Affairs Minister Urges Female Journalists To Drive Change

Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called on female journalists to be intentional agents of change, promoting national unity and amplifying marginalized voices.

She made the call at the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Zone D inaugural conference in Abuja, themed “Curbing Insecurity: The Role of Female Journalists in National Security”.

Represented by Mrs Jummai Idonije, her Special Assistant on Women and Community Engagement, hajia Sulaiman-Ibrahim described female journalists as “narrators of society’s struggles and triumphs”, occupying a strategic position to inform, inspire and mobilize the public

She emphasized that female journalists’ voices can challenge violence, counter misinformation and promote peace, revealing solutions and fostering healing in the face of rising threats.

The Minister applauded NAWOJ for consistently promoting inclusive governance and advocating for increased women’s representation.

Hajia Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening families, empowering women and protecting vulnerable groups, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

” We are also championing the National Family Strengthening and Development Programme (NFSP); a flagship initiative of Mr. President; designed to reach over five million Nigerians with solutions anchored in community support, culture, and resilience. This includes the inauguration of the National Framework for Family Cohesion, developed in partnership with traditional leaders, civil society, and media stakeholders like NAWOJ.

The Minister called on all stakeholders; government, civil society, traditional institutions, development partners, and the media to collaborate to bridge the gaps, eliminate silos, and build a more inclusive and secure Nigeria.
