The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON FCT Chapter has called on striking Area Council workers to return to their posts, emphasizing ongoing efforts to address their demands.
Speaking at a News Conference in Abuja, the Secretary of FCT ALGON and Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Dr. John Gabaya, revealed that all Area Council Chairmen have already approved and begun implementing the national minimum wage.
Dr. Gabaya acknowledged that while issues such as salary arrears remain unresolved, there is ample opportunity for continued dialogue.
He appealed to the workers to call off the strike in the interest of uninterrupted service delivery and the general welfare of FCT residents.
Also Speaking, the FCT ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya, urged striking teachers to return to classrooms, noting the adverse impact of the strike on pupils’ education.
Hon. Chiya also lauded the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his intervention and commitment to resolving the crisis.
He reassured workers of the Area Council Chairmen’s dedication to prioritizing their welfare and improving working conditions.
The strike, which has disrupted services across the six Area Councils in the FCT, has drawn growing concern from both residents and officials, prompting renewed calls for a swift resolution.
